What Is Natural Quartzite?
Quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed when pure quartz sandstone is subjected to extreme heat and pressure deep within the earth. This geological process — occurring over millions of years — fuses the quartz grains into an exceptionally dense, interlocking crystalline structure.
Unlike marble, which is formed from calcium carbonate and remains vulnerable to acid etching, quartzite is primarily silica-based. This makes it highly resistant to household acids, daily scratching, and the heat generated by cookware — properties that make it the preferred upgrade path for designers specifying luxury kitchen surfaces and feature walls.

Is quartzite the same as quartz?
No. Quartzite is a 100% natural metamorphic rock formed from sandstone under geological pressure over millions of years. Engineered quartz (also called quartz composite or quartz surface) is a man-made product consisting of approximately 90–95% ground quartz crystals mixed with polymer resins and pigments. Quartzite has unique, unrepeatable natural patterns; engineered quartz has a consistent, manufactured appearance.
Does quartzite require sealing?
Yes — for most varieties and applications. While quartzite is denser and less porous than marble, a penetrating stone sealer should be applied at installation and reapplied every 1–3 years depending on usage. Premium-grade varieties with very low water absorption (under 0.2%) may require less frequent maintenance.
What are the standard slab sizes?
Most quartzite slabs range from 240 × 120 cm up to 320 × 180 cm, depending on the quarry block size and variety. Standard thicknesses are 18 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm. Custom cut-to-size processing is available for specific project dimensions.
Can exotic/luxury quartzite be used outdoors?
Generally, no. While the stone itself is extremely hard, luxury quartzite slabs are treated with resins that will yellow and degrade under outdoor UV light. Additionally, the minerals creating their vibrant colors can fade or rust when exposed to the weather. They are best reserved for stunning indoor applications like kitchen islands and feature walls.
