What Is Engineered Quartz?
Engineered quartz is a manufactured composite stone produced by combining 90–94% crushed natural quartz crystals with polymer resins, pigments, and performance additives under high pressure and heat. This process — known as Bretonstone technology — results in a dense, non-porous slab with exceptional consistency and structural uniformity.
Unlike natural stone, engineered quartz contains no pores or micro-fissures, making it inherently resistant to staining, bacteria, and moisture without the need for sealing. Its quartz mineral base gives it outstanding hardness and scratch resistance, while its resin composition allows it to withstand moderate heat from daily kitchen use.
The manufacturing process allows for precise control of color, pattern, and texture — enabling the reproduction of marble-look veining, concrete aesthetics, or solid tonal surfaces across unlimited volume with zero batch variation. This makes engineered quartz the preferred specification material for commercial kitchen and hospitality projects requiring exact color matching across large quantities.

Q1: Is Engineered Quartz the Same as Natural Quartzite?
No. Natural quartzite is a metamorphic rock quarried directly from the earth, with natural variation in color and veining. Engineered quartz is a manufactured composite — produced from crushed quartz crystals and resin under controlled conditions. Engineered quartz is non-porous and requires no sealing; natural quartzite does.
Q2: Does Engineered Quartz Need to Be Sealed?
No. This is one of its primary advantages over natural stone. The resin-bonded manufacturing process creates a completely non-porous surface that does not absorb liquids, resists bacteria, and requires no sealing — ever. Routine cleaning with mild soap and water is sufficient.
Q3: What Are the Standard Slab Sizes?
Standard export slab dimensions are approximately 300 × 140 cm or 320 × 160 cm (jumbo format available), with thickness options of 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm. Cut-to-size dimensions are available from our factory. Contact us with your project requirements for a detailed specification.
Q4: Can Engineered Quartz Be Used Outdoors?
We do not recommend engineered quartz for direct outdoor UV exposure. Prolonged sunlight can cause resin degradation and color shift over time. For exterior applications, natural granite or quartzite is a more appropriate specification. Quartz performs excellently in covered outdoor kitchens or shaded areas.
