FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything buyers and specifiers need to know about Silver Dragon Marble.

Silver Dragon Marble is a premium natural black marble quarried in Guangxi Province, China. It is characterized by a deep black or dark charcoal base interlaced with distinctive horizontal silver-white veins. The flowing vein pattern gives the stone its “dragon” name. It is also marketed internationally as Silver Portoro Marble, China Black Portoro Marble, and Silver White Dragon Marble.
Yes — Silver Dragon is widely used for kitchen countertops and performs well in that environment. Its dark base is more forgiving than white marbles when it comes to showing daily use. Apply a penetrating sealer on installation and reseal annually. Use a cutting board; avoid prolonged contact with acidic substances like lemon juice or vinegar. The polished finish is most popular, though some clients prefer honed for its matte, low-glare appearance.
Both are black marbles with white veining, but they look and price very differently. Nero Marquina from Spain has more irregular, scattered white veins on a pure, flat black background and commands a premium price. Silver Dragon Marble features more linear, horizontal silver-white veins with a flowing, almost wave-like quality on a deep black base. Silver Dragon is considerably more cost-competitive, making it a preferred choice for large-format commercial projects where Nero Marquina would be prohibitively expensive.
Slabs are available up to 270 × 180 cm. Tiles come in 30×30, 30×60, 60×60, and 60×120 cm, and we can produce custom cut-to-size pieces for countertops, stairs, door thresholds, and window sills. Standard slab thicknesses are 15 mm, 18 mm, and 20 mm; tiles are typically 10 mm or 12 mm. Thicker slabs (30 mm) are available on request for exterior cladding and feature wall applications.
Daily cleaning: soft cloth or mop with warm water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid bleach, acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon-based products), or abrasive pads. Seal with a penetrating impregnator sealer on installation and reseal when water stops beading on the surface (typically once a year). Wipe spills promptly — especially oily substances and acidic liquids. The dark colour of Silver Dragon is more forgiving than light marbles for everyday use.
We ship globally via sea freight from Xiamen, Qingdao, or Tianjin ports. For in-stock material, we can load within 7–10 days of deposit receipt. Custom production orders typically take 15–25 business days. Transit times vary: 20–30 days to Europe and North America; 10–20 days to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australia. We prepare all documentation including bill of lading, packing list, certificate of origin, and fumigation certificates.
Silver Dragon Marble can be used in covered outdoor environments such as covered terraces, porticos, and exterior feature walls protected from direct rain. For outdoor flooring, a bush-hammered or flamed finish provides the necessary slip resistance. We do not recommend polished finish for wet outdoor floors. In freeze-thaw climates, apply a quality exterior-grade sealer and consult our team for climate-specific guidance before specifying for exterior use.

About This Stone

Silver Dragon Marble: A Complete Buyer's Guide

Silver Dragon Marble — known in Chinese stone markets as 银白龙大理石 — is one of China’s most commercially successful premium black marbles. Quarried primarily in Guangxi Province, it has been exported to projects across the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia for over two decades.

What Makes Silver Dragon Marble Distinctive

The defining characteristic of Silver Dragon is its veining orientation. Unlike many black marbles where veins run diagonally or randomly, Silver Dragon features predominantly horizontal, flowing silver-white veins across a deep black background. This linear quality gives the stone a directional energy — almost like a landscape or a horizon — that designers use deliberately to elongate or ground a space. The veins range from fine hairlines to bold bands, occasionally clustering into denser formations that read as brushstrokes on the polished surface.

Geological Origin

Silver Dragon is a metamorphic carbonate rock (marble) formed when limestone underwent intense geological heat and pressure. The silver-white veining results from calcite and silica-rich mineral fluids migrating through fractures in the parent rock. Guangxi’s geological conditions produce a particularly dense, stable block structure, which contributes to Silver Dragon’s noted strength and workability. The stone is available in two sub-types: black base (deeper, more dramatic black) and dark grey base — both share the same horizontal vein character.

Design Applications & Pairings

Silver Dragon’s high-contrast monochrome palette pairs naturally with warm metals (brushed brass, aged bronze, copper) and with cool industrial materials (matte-black steel, concrete, smoked glass). The horizontal vein direction can be used strategically: installed with veins running perpendicular to the room’s longest axis, the stone visually widens a space; parallel to the longest axis, it elongates. In bookmatched wall panels, the mirrored vein pattern creates a Rorschach-like symmetry that is one of natural stone’s most distinctive design effects — impossible to replicate with any engineered material.

Silver Dragon vs. Nero Portoro (Italy)

Italian Nero Portoro is often cited as the world’s finest black marble with gold and white veining. Silver Dragon Marble draws frequent comparison because of its similar dark base and dramatic veining — China’s stone industry marketed it as “China Nero Portoro” for this reason. The Italian stone commands significantly higher prices and comes in much smaller block sizes. Silver Dragon offers a more accessible price point with larger slab availability, making it the practical specification choice for large-scale projects that want the visual impact of premium black marble without the cost constraints of Italian material.

Specifying for Large Projects

For hotel lobbies, commercial podiums, and residential developments requiring high volumes, Silver Dragon’s abundant quarry supply in Guangxi is a significant advantage. We maintain large block inventories from matched quarry runs, meaning your 500 m² lobby floor and matching wall panels can come from visually consistent material. We provide slab layout drawings, bookmatching plans, and can photograph all material for client approval before packing — standard practice for high-profile projects.
