Origin & Character

Crema Marfil Marble: Spain's Gift to the World of Interior Design

Crema Marfil Marble is quarried from the Monte Coto area near Pinoso in Alicante Province, southeastern Spain — a region with centuries of natural stone heritage. Exported to over 100 countries, it is the single most recognised beige marble in the world and a cornerstone material for luxury residential and hospitality projects across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.

What sets Crema Marfil Marble apart is its uniquely consistent palette: a warm ivory-cream background with subtle veining in tones of cinnamon, gold, and white. Unlike more dramatically veined marbles, its relative uniformity makes it exceptionally versatile — it pairs with almost any material, colour scheme, or design language, from Mediterranean warmth to contemporary minimalism.

At HD Stone, we source Crema Marfil Marble directly from established Alicante quarry partners and process it in our own Shuitou, Fujian facility — ensuring consistent grade quality, competitive FOB pricing, and full traceability from Spanish quarry to your project site.

Crema Marfil Marble Grades: Which Is Right for Your Project?

Crema Marfil Marble is graded by the consistency of its background colour, the prominence of veining, and the presence of natural features such as rice grains (fossil inclusions) and waterlines. Understanding the grade system is essential — it directly affects both the visual outcome and the price of your project. HD Stone supplies all three grades, with lot photos provided for every order.

Design Pairing Guide

What Does Crema Marfil Marble Pair With?

One of the most commercially valuable properties of Crema Marfil Marble is its design neutrality — its warm cream background pairs harmoniously with a wide range of complementary materials, stone colours, and design styles.

Nero Marquina

The classic contrast pairing — bold black veining against cream. Widely used in Mediterranean and classical interiors.

Dark Emperador

Rich dark brown marble paired with Crema Marfil creates a warm, layered palette ideal for bathroom borders and flooring insets.

White Marble

Pairing Crema Marfil with bright white marble (Thassos or Calacatta) creates a soft, luminous contrast for decorative floors and borders.

Warm Wood

Natural timber cabinetry and Crema Marfil countertops are a signature combination in North American and European luxury kitchens.

Common Questions

Crema Marfil Marble: Frequently Asked Questions

Crema Marfil Marble is a natural marble quarried primarily from the Monte Coto and Monte Zafra areas near Pinoso and Novelda in Alicante Province, southeastern Spain. It is composed principally of calcite with fine fossil inclusions (rice grains) and subtle veining in cream, cinnamon, and gold tones. Spain exports over 700,000 tons of Crema Marfil annually, making it the most exported natural marble in the world.
Select Grade has the highest colour uniformity, minimal veining, and almost no rice grain inclusions — ideal for premium feature walls and high-visibility surfaces. Commercial Grade offers the classic Crema Marfil Marble appearance with moderate veining and occasional inclusions — the most widely specified grade globally. Standard Grade shows more prominent veining, darker beige tones, and more visible inclusions — the most economical option for budget-sensitive projects. See our Grade Guide section above for a full comparison with visual swatches.
Yes — Crema Marfil Marble is widely used for bathroom floors. For wet room and shower floor applications, specify a honed or brushed finish (not polished) to provide adequate slip resistance. Seal before installation and reseal every 6 months in wet areas. Its low water absorption rate (0.07–0.15%) makes it technically suitable for wet environments with proper waterproofing preparation.

Crema Marfil Marble is suitable for outdoor use in frost-free climates (Middle East, Australia, Southern Europe, coastal North America). In regions with regular freeze-thaw cycles, it is not recommended for outdoor flooring or exposed horizontal surfaces due to calcite porosity. Bush-hammered or sandblasted finishes are recommended for outdoor applications to provide slip resistance. Seal with a UV-stable penetrating sealer for exterior use.

Seal Crema Marfil Marble with a penetrating stone sealer before installation and reseal every 6–12 months (more frequently in wet or high-traffic areas). Clean with pH-neutral stone-safe cleaners only — never use acidic products such as vinegar, lemon, or standard bathroom cleaners, as they will etch the calcite surface. Wipe spills immediately. For polished surfaces, professional re-polishing every few years can restore surface gloss.

Our minimum order quantity for Crema Marfil Marble slabs and tiles starts from 50 m², though this varies by grade, finish, and specific format. For sample or trial orders, or smaller project quantities, please contact our team to discuss options. We work with both project-specific orders and ongoing supply agreements for stone importers and distributors.

Crema Marfil Marble has a warmer, more ivory-cream tone with finer, more subtle veining compared to Botticino (Italian origin, slightly more pronounced veining, cooler beige tone) and Dino Beige (Turkish, slightly softer warmer tone with brown veining). Crema Marfil offers the most consistent background colour globally across multiple quarries, which is why it remains the most internationally recognised beige marble.
