The Geology of Marble
Marble forms when limestone undergoes metamorphism — intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth cause the original calcium carbonate minerals to recrystallize into interlocking calcite or dolomite crystals. This transformation eliminates the original sedimentary structure and produces the stone’s characteristic smooth, sugary grain and translucent depth.
The veining patterns that define each marble variety are formed by trace mineral impurities introduced during metamorphism — iron oxides produce warm gold and rust tones, manganese creates grey and black streaks, serpentine contributes green, and clay minerals deposit the subtle beige and cream variations seen in varieties like Volakas and Carrara. No two slabs share the same vein path.
Unlike granite or quartzite, polished marble exhibits sub-surface light transmission — light penetrates several millimetres into the stone before reflecting, giving the surface a depth and luminosity that no engineered alternative replicates. This optical quality is the primary reason marble remains the material of choice for spaces where atmosphere and refinement define the brief.

Surface Finish
Polished vs. Honed — When to Choose Each
Polished marble maximises veining contrast and creates a mirror surface ideal for feature walls, reception desks, and bathroom vanities with low footfall. Honed finishes reduce reflectivity and improve slip resistance — the correct specification for flooring in circulation areas, hospitality bathrooms, and wet rooms.

For large-format projects requiring consistent veining across multiple slabs, we supply from reserved quarry batches and offer book-matched slab sets. Provide your project quantity and layout dimensions so we can confirm batch continuity before order confirmation.
Thickness
Standard Dimensions & Cut-to-Size Options
Export slabs are available in 18 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm thickness. Standard slab dimensions are approximately 240 × 120 cm and 260 × 130 cm. We provide factory cut-to-size service for countertop blanks, stair treads, tile sets, and custom panel dimensions.
Sealing & Maintenance
Acid Sensitivity and Protective Treatment
Marble is calcium carbonate and reacts to acids including citric juice, vinegar, and many cleaning agents. For kitchen countertop applications, specify an impregnating sealer applied before installation and reapplied annually. For non-kitchen applications — flooring, cladding, bathroom surfaces — routine maintenance requirements are minimal.

Commercial Grade vs. First Choice
Our collection is supplied in First Choice (G1) and Commercial grades. G1 material carries consistent background colour, minimal natural fissures, and uniform veining character per batch. Commercial grade accepts natural geological variation and is suitable for non-critical decorative applications and mosaic production.
Project Scale
Minimum Order & Wholesale Supply Capacity
We supply both project quantities and full container wholesale orders. Minimum order for custom cut-to-size is one full slab. For full slab supply, we recommend a minimum of one container (approximately 200–250 m²) to ensure batch consistency and optimise freight cost per square metre.

How Do You Control Colour Consistency Across Multiple Slabs?
We source from reserved quarry lots and supply slabs from single-batch cuts for large-format projects. Before production confirmation, we provide slab photographs showing the full batch range so your team can approve the colour variation tolerance. For critical installations requiring maximum consistency, book-matched sets are available from sequential quarry cuts.
What Is the Difference Between Polished and Honed Marble?
Polished marble has a high-gloss mirror surface that maximises veining contrast and light reflection — best for walls, feature surfaces, and low-traffic flooring. Honed marble has a matte, smooth surface with no reflectivity — better for flooring in circulation areas, wet rooms, and any surface where slip resistance or fingerprint concealment matters.
Is Marble Suitable for Kitchen Countertops?
Yes, with informed specification. Marble is acid-sensitive — exposure to lemon juice, vinegar, or acidic cleaners will etch the surface over time. For working kitchen countertops with heavy daily use, we recommend applying an impregnating sealer and committing to annual resealing. Many of our clients specify marble specifically because they accept the natural patina that develops with use.
Do You Supply Book-Matched Slab Sets?
Yes. Book-matched sets are available for white and grey marble varieties where the vein continuity across a mirrored pair creates a symmetrical composition. Please specify the panel dimensions and quantity at inquiry stage so we can confirm availability from current quarry stock. Lead time for book-matched sets is typically 2–4 weeks longer than standard supply.
What Is the Difference Between Imported and Chinese Marble?
Our collection includes both Chinese domestic marble (Guangxi White, Panda White, White Wooden) and internationally sourced varieties (Calacatta, Volakas, Nero Marquina, Sofitel Gold). Chinese marble offers cost efficiency with reliable batch supply. Imported varieties carry specific origin character — the calcite purity of Italian Calacatta or the density of Spanish Nero Marquina — that cannot be replicated by domestic alternatives.
Can I Request Physical Samples Before Placing an Order?
Yes. We dispatch DHL sample sets (approximately 10 × 10 cm or 20 × 20 cm pieces) for most varieties in our active inventory.
